The marriage enrichment class is an education class focused on building safety and connection in committed, romantic relationships. It is held remotely for 90 minutes over three sessions. 

As I have worked with couples, I realized there were some things in common. First, they didn’t actually want to be fighting. They wanted to have a peaceful relationship. Second, they would get so frustrated because the same fights would happen again and again. Some of these fights were over what they called “stupid” things. If they didn’t want to fight, and the fights were “stupid”, why did they get so upset? I saw that all the fights, no matter how big or small, came down to three questions: 

Are you there for me?

Do you care how I feel?

Am I enough for you?

Whatever the couple thought they were fighting about, it came down to one of these three questions underneath. When couples were able to identify what they were really asking, they were able to change how they communicated. They were able to interrupt the fights and make a healthier, more peaceful pattern in its place. 

Those three questions are the core of the curriculum we will cover in my relationship enrichment class, along with information on how to recognize bids for connection and how to make relationship repairs after hurt has happened.
